Overview
Trancendance is a weekly radio program on CiTR 101.9 FM devoted entirely to modern electronic Trance music. Trancendance broadcasts live from the University of British Columbia campus radio station every Sunday night from 10pm - Midnight (PST) and podcasts of (almost) each show are made available to download and listen to at your convenience. Listeners can also tune in via Live Internet Feed (Listen Live link on the home page - I think you need real player). If you live close but not quite within FM range you can connect your receiver to cable as CiTR rebroadcasts on cable 101.9fm in and around Vancouver.
We love to get calls while we are on-air but please be patient if it takes a few minutes for us to pick-up. You can reach us in the on-air studio Sunday nights between 10pm - Midnight (PST) by calling (604) 822-2487.
More often than not we are the last show on Sunday night until Breakfast with the Browns starts at 8am Monday morning. That means we get to program the overnight mix most of the time so if you’re looking for Trance music instead of sleeping on a Sunday night you should give CiTR a listen. You’ll have to listen live though because we don’t podcast the Trancendance Overnight Mix.
The Show
I’m DJ Smiley Mike - resident DJ and host of Trancendance (pronounced tran-sen-dance not trans-en-dance) and this is a little history of how I wound up with a radio show on CiTR.
As far as I can tell Trancendance first aired in 2001. That’s when our first ad appeared in Discorder. At the time the show was co-hosted by Sideshow Sid (now in retirement - er.. I mean - now with a real job :). DJ Caddyshack joined the show not long after and between the two of us we’ve managed to keep the show on air for quite some time now.
Before I started Trancendance I appeared regularly on Digital Alarm Chronometer - another electronic music show on CiTR. Digital Alarm Chronometer has been off air for some time now, but back in 1994 it was hosted by DJ Vader and co-hosted by Sidearm. DJ Vader was friends with DJ Cyber who still hosts Synaptic Sandwich on CiTR Saturdays from 9pm - 11pm.
