Last week’s show was just a warm up for this! If you like hard dance, you’re not going to want to miss this episode. dj Smiley Mike puts the spotlight on Guyver. Guyver is Guy Mearns who hit the scene in 2002 with Man On The Moon and has been releasing dance-floor smashers ever since, mainly on Tidy Trax and Tidy Two. He’s gone by a few other names, most notably The Riot Brothers which released Flashback / Guyver Unit, a favourite that I still have on vinyl somewhere.

Caddyshack had actually planned out a set this week, but just couldn’t make it through my set without throwing it all out and putting together his own Hard Dance set for the second half of the show. His set features Wragg & Log:One. Wragg is Toby Veale and Log:One is James Logan. They caught our attention soon after they hit the scene around 2008 with tracks primarily released on iHDS and Atmosphere Records UK.

And if you get all tingly when you hear some dubstep dropped in where you least expect it, you’re going to love the second half of Cadyshack’s set. Especially the Bashy & Napt track right at the end that throws things right back to the days of Pump up the Jam by Technotronic. Let’s be honest, where you even born in 1989?

I was overdue for a real bangin hard trance set, so tonight started to get it out. It took a couple records to get back in the groove, and of course, even after some 15 years or so of DJing, I forgot to check a needle, and sure enough it was jammed full of dust. But after the first couple records, I was back into it and having a blast.

Now Caddyshack’s set is NOT to be missed this week! Wicked track selection and very nicely put together. What style you ask? Well, Caddyshack’s kind of been known to cross styles. There’s some epic trance, some vocals, some acid trance… it’s just everything good rolled into one.

This show follows hot on the heals of Gareth Emery’s Northern Lights tour in Vancouver. Several of the tracks are from his set, which was a non-stop crowd pleaser, including many tracks that seemed to be quite a bit harder than expected.

There’s a couple spots that could use cleaning up if I were to rerecord the set. The BK track at the end isn’t a perfect fit and the Fausto & BRK3 track is a little harsh in the mix. I mix on the fly quite a lot, and this set has 10 tracks that I’d never played before, so, all in all, it came out pretty well for a first cut. I think several of the tracks will show up in a new set before long, maybe even on Saturday when I fill in for Synaptic Sandwhich.

Caddyshack really steals the show this week! It’s been awhile since he played a Drum and Bass set and it put a huge smile on my face as soon as he dropped the first track. Don’t miss his mix in the second part of the show that seems to slide back and forth between Drum and Bass and Jungle.

I wasn’t sure how my set turned out this week. I switched it up after being in the psychedelic zone for the past few weeks, and to be quite honest, I barely listened to any of the tracks in this week’s set before the show. A lot of the magic is in the tracks themselves this week. Most of my set features hard trance sounds with the twist of having unique breakdowns that include everything from phat almost crunky beats, to the killer bootleg remix by Organ Donors (what is that from?)
