Let Me Be Your Shamen
Killer Psychedelic Trance Mix

My set from this week is still untitled. It must be a bit early for the creative juices to be flowing.

Some weeks when I go looking for music, it seems like I have to listen to 100 tracks to find 1 or 2 good ones, but this week it seems like everything I listened to was brilliant! What started off as a tribute to Mekkanikka (who will be playing live at Organix (Club 23 West) in Vancouver next Friday, soon grew to include new music from Laughing Buddha, a new artist I’d never heard of before named Triptych, new tracks from TIP World and another new group named Mesmerizer. This week’s set is VERY psychedelic.

For the second half of the show, Caddyshack brought out some updated Union Jack sounds (a personal fave) as well as some mashed up classics. I could admit I didn’t write down his setlist because I was chatting with our studio guest, Jay (really glad you came by!), but it’s way more fun to just say Caddyshack’s set is top secret – like back in the day when DJs would be pretty reluctant to tell you what tracks they were playing ;)

Caddyshack drops a fairly eclectic trance mix before I get into some proggresive psytrance at a slightly slower tempo than usual (but not too slow :)

Fusion Psytrance Mix

This week was as indecisive as I’ve been in a long time! I’ve got ideas percolating for a classic anthem set, and olskool rave set and a Top 10 Eve Records set – and I just couldn’t decide what to play right up until the show started this week.

Good friend Morgan from the Spirit Circle dropped by this week too, although he somehow managed to duck out at just the right time to avoid being on air! I found out that Morgan got turned on to electronic dance music the same way I did, by listening to CiTR back in the early 90s when shows like Homebass with DJ Noah, Synaptic Sandwhich with DJ Cyber and, drum roll please… Digital Alarm Chronometer with DJ Vadar were ruling the airwaves! Little did Morgan know, I became a regular fixture on Digital Alarm Chronometer starting in about 1994!

Mad Maxx Fullon Psytrance Tribute

Mad Maxx played at Organix on Friday and after looking through some of my recent podcasts, I was surprised that I hadn’t played more Mad Maxx given that I have quite a few of his tracks and generally love his stuff. This week I picked up a few newer Mad Maxx tracks, dug up some of his older stuff and put together a Full On Psytrance set that hopefully does him proud. Still a long way off from the live set he delivered on Friday, but Max sets the bar pretty high as a long-time leading name in hard psychedelic trance.

Steve Kreuger Eclectic Mix

I always have the hardest time describing other people’s sets as the connection to the music isn’t quite as intimate. And Steve plays such an eclectic mix that I’m not always sure how to classify it. Some of it is a little housey, some of it is trancey and some of it seems almost a bit technoey. (Spell check is giving me a hard time there, but I think you get what I mean.) If you really want to know what I’m talking about, give Steve’s set a listen and then let me know how you would classify the style.

La Roux – In for the Kill (Michael Woods Remix)
Cirez D – The Tumble
Thomas Gold – Star 69 (The Thomas Gold 09 What the F*ck Edit)

Organix Goaween with Mad Maxx

Organix Goaween with Mad Maxx - Halloween Psytrance

When I heard Mad Maxx was coming in from Spain to play a live set of full on psytrance in Vancouver this Hallowe’en, I couldn’t wait! In the last few months I’ve rediscovered my psytrance roots, and really been loving some of the new stuff. Mad Maxx stood out as one of my favorites and I’ve featured his tracks most notably on my Journey to Here episode. (I thought I had featured him more, but am a bit excited to see that I haven’t overplayed his tracks. Maybe I’ll feature him in the Hallowe’en podcast.)

Anyways, Mad Maxx is actually Max Peterson who was born in San Diago but spent time living in France and Mexico before moving to Spain where he is currently based. In 2000, Max teamed up with Samy Guediche (CPU) and Nicolas Oesch (Mekkanikka) to create a group called Biodegradable. After the success of their album, Phaser, Max joined up with Davina Elmosnino and created the Trance Project formerly known as Sirius Isness.

Don’t miss tomorrow’s show at 23 West in Vancouver! Event info is on the Facebook Event page. You can find a little more about Mad Maxx on the Mad Maxx MySpace page. And watch for more Mad Maxx on Trancendance very soon!
