Mad Maxx played at Organix on Friday and after looking through some of my recent podcasts, I was surprised that I hadn’t played more Mad Maxx given that I have quite a few of his tracks and generally love his stuff. This week I picked up a few newer Mad Maxx tracks, dug up some of his older stuff and put together a Full On Psytrance set that hopefully does him proud. Still a long way off from the live set he delivered on Friday, but Max sets the bar pretty high as a long-time leading name in hard psychedelic trance.

Steve Kreuger Eclectic Mix

I always have the hardest time describing other people’s sets as the connection to the music isn’t quite as intimate. And Steve plays such an eclectic mix that I’m not always sure how to classify it. Some of it is a little housey, some of it is trancey and some of it seems almost a bit technoey. (Spell check is giving me a hard time there, but I think you get what I mean.) A fantastic Yin and Yang show this week with special guest Steve Krueger in the studio to start things off with a groovy trance set.

The second half of the show picks up the pace with a hard acid trance set featuring two brand new promo tracks from Ignite Digital – Future Manipulation by Burak Harsitlioglu and Alternative by On NRG. Both tracks will appear on the forthcoming Zest album from Ignite Digital, mixed by Simon Qudos (another of my current faves). On NRG caught my attention a few weeks back when I included the track On Stars in The Burning Man Mix (which seems to be quite a popular mix).

This week I tackle mixing on 3 decks, or as close as I can get at the radio station. The studio here has a Rane Serato SL-3 which has a built in SP-6 sampler. So I can play triples where I start with the samples track and then mix two tracks into it. Unfortunately the studio here only has a 2 channel mixer, so it’s a little tricky mixing 3 audio sources with only 2 faders. Some of the mixes are a little rough around the edges, but I’m pretty sure some of the triples worked out pretty well, so it’s just a matter of refining them. I think you’ll see more 3 deck mixes from me soon. Maybe even a CD this summer.

Caddyshack has gone full on into a hardcore drum and bass phase, which I am loving. His taste in music has traditionally been very similar to mine, so all the tracks he’s been searching out have the kind of sounds and elements that I like.
